Taiwan’s economy is ahead of China’s in terms of average income and economic development. However, Taiwan should be cautious about signing a service trade agreement with China. If Taiwan does so, the salaries of young people in Taiwan may drop to the same low level as those in China. Greedy politicians of pro-China Parties should not sacrifice the survival of Taiwan’s next generation for China’s support in their presidential election. They are our compatriots. Moreover, there is another downside to the service trade agreement with China: under the international trend of competition between the United States and China, the United States will only become stricter in blocking Chinese technology. If Taiwan and China integrate their economies (through service trade agreements), Taiwan will be placed on an equal footing with China and will be blocked from world technology like China in the future.
Japan and the United States have higher per capita incomes than Taiwan. If Taiwan can sign a service trade agreement with Japan or the United States, it would be beneficial for Taiwan. Of course, there are two prerequisites: first, only Taiwanese people who can speak Japanese or English can benefit; second, Japan and the United States must be willing to sacrifice their national interests to achieve Taiwan’s goals. Between Japan and the United States, Japan is actually better for Taiwan. The economic integration (service trade agreement) between Taiwan and Japan is equivalent to taking the first step for Taiwan to return to Japan, just like the European Union issuing the euro. The European Union also wants to integrate its economy.
