"Magic, magic! Do it again! Again!"

The real magic was the way her eyes sparkled with glee. Blue to green, then back to blue… It was a different combination of those two colors every time the light hit her eyes.

Just like her mother's.

And just like her mother, Miette was easy to please. Blair had been doing the same sleight-of-hand card trick for the past twenty minutes, and yet the little girl giggled with amusement like it was the first time she performed it.

Marion was like that, too, the first time Blair revealed to her friend her abilities. They were children then, and they used her magic for the most childish things like making spells for growing beards on random women and conjuring candy out of thin air.

Miette would love magical candy, no doubt, but the days of magic are long gone and best forgotten.
