We are not anti-templates. The fact that we invited known template users should have been proof of that.

Templates are an important source of SL economy, and enables creative and talented people to express themselves and make a living on the sides. Overlooking template users with major talent seems silly to us, hence the reason why we ACTIVELY invited designers we knew were template users.

That said. This event was invite-only. There was no application. We invited designers who we knew were imaginative and likes to have fun with their creation. There was a long list that we had to narrow down to 50, which was not easy in a world filled with creative folks!

When we contacted designers who we knew are template users, we asked if it was possible for them to partner up with a mesher OR have original mesh items commissioned exclusively for the event. Why?

Because we do not want easily available templates to be used in gacha. Therefore, when you play during The Gathering, you are playing a game of chance but also receiving original creations.
