CHAPTER 43


so it picks up right where the last one left off with toubee asking "dafuck are you" and seimei (that's seimei right I'm laughing someday I'll remember) says "HMMMM just an onmyouji that happened to pass by, I suppose"

toubee asks if he's oda or iga, and then I think she's like "with that attitude you sure don't seem like an ally" and is trying to subtly draw her gun

but then Seimei says EEYUP and when toubee points it at him she can't move, and I think seimei tells her not to do anything foolish since she doesn't wanna get destroyed from the inside out right~?

she asks what he wants and he says "the annihilation of kunitomo" and toubee's like !!! shit he's aiming for us??

seimei says "inside the fortress there are a number of wooden statues, right? I've filled them up with gunpowder" (or explosive powder w/e) and he says that if they were to all go off then that fortress would be blown to bits

he says "if that happened, I wonder what would become of the group inside?" and she's like you fuckin asshole

seimei's like GEEZ IT WAS SUPER HARD TO GET THAT DONE BEHIND MOMOCHI'S BACK~~~

toubee's like WHY US DO YOU HAVE A GRUDGE OR SOMETHING and he's like "nah it was just an idea"

toubee's like WTF??? and seimei just says he likes her expression... and then says "you asked 'why', didn't you?" and then says there is no "why" he literally just felt like it

he says "your face tells me you can't comprehend it, right? that's fine" and then I think he's rambling about how he has the power of life or death over the kunitomo and that there's nothing stopping him or holding him down, and says "this is freedom"

then I guess some bullets fly past them because he's like OOPS I GUESS THIS IS CLOSE ENOUGH TO THE FORTRESS FOR STRAY BULLETS LOL let's go watch everyone you love die

he's able to make her move with his spell or w/e and she's understandably mad about it... and then I think he says he's gonna make her deliver the final blow/use her to kill off the kunitomo?? and "don't worry, I'll leave only you and kunitomo yuuma alive"

then it starts raining kunitomos who are obvs confused and seimei's like what the actual fuck THEY ALL FELL DOWN HERE???

while he's distracted toubee tries to break free and run but he notices and tries to get her to stop like "don't move you'll rip your body apart" and she's like I DON'T CARE

then I think he tries to tell her not to be reckless and that if she goes that way she'll get hit by stray bullets and it seems like one just barely misses them?? since he's like TOLD YA SO

or maybe it doesn't miss them??? bc she starts bleeding and collapses and he's like OH COME ON

I think it got into her organs?? since he says it's an issue of time... but then the kunitomo are like LEADEEEEEER WHERE ARE YOUUUUUU and he's like fuck my plans got all messed up... okay well I guess I'll go back to oumi and check out the sky and then--

AND THEN he feels toubee pressing her gun to him and she tells him "don't lay a hand on the kunitomo... I'll kill you"

he kicks her off and has a temper tantrum like IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT THAT EVERYTHING GOT MESSED UP KEEL OVER AND DIE YOU USELESS PIECE OF CRAP but then the kunitomo get too close and he disappears ig

the kunitomo find her and start freaking out, somebody calls oda to try and stop the bleeding and then I think he's thinking "fuck it's already too late" but toubee reaches out and says I'M.... FINE...

she tells them to hurry up and get back to the fortress, they're understandably reluctant but she's like "idiot, is the middle of a battle really the right time to be worried about an injured person??" and then I think she basically says they'll do fine without her, and gives some rousing speech like YOU CAN DO IT IT'S FINE, BE PROUD OF OUR GUNS LIVE ALONG WITH IRON THAT IS KUNITOMO and that they'll win with the guns they're so proud of

she tells them to go climb the cliff and show everyone the kunitomo's willpower but yuuma refuses to leave her, oda tries to say he's gonna take her back to the supplies group asap but yuuma's like "then I'll go too"

toubee's like "this is why you weren't chosen to be leader", because he's always given her special treatment and a leader needs to be able to focus on the big picture, not just a single person

she says that if the time comes for him to take over that she wants him to promise that, to protect the kunitomo, he'll throw away anything that holds him back

yuuma's like "wha..." and she says "I could throw them away. Even if it was you, yuuma. Not to mention, this is a battlefield-- it's only reasonable to throw away any burdens and move forward, even if that's the leader (furigana reads "me")

then I'm not sure exactly what she's trying to say, since at first she's like IT DOESN'T NECESSARILY MEAN I'LL DIE OR ANYTHING but then she says that she's telling him when (/while) she's not there, the people they gathered (the kunitomo I'm guessing??) are important... anyway

yuuma says "do you remember?" and toubee's like ?? and he tells a story about how one time she accidentally fell into a hunting trap and didn't come home for a whole night, and that he thought he was gonna go crazy bc no matter how much he searched he couldn't find her

he says "I'm sorry for that kind of memory... I just think that, if something were to happen to you again while I'm not here..."

toubee laughs and says OH YEAH THAT HAPPENED HUH... she says that no matter how much she yelled and cried nobody came and she was thinking "I'm cold, my legs are hurting, I'm getting hungry" and started to get faint, thinking "I'm really useless huh"

but then yuuma found her, and the text says "no matter what, you always found me. Even if I lost my voice, even if my throat was destroyed, it'll definitely reach that person"

she says that her fear was chased away and she was filled with hope, just by having someone by her side she felt like she could do anything

she says "I love you, yuuma nii-chan" and hugs him, then tells him to go, he says that they'll definitely win and return for her so he asks her to wait

she says SURE and he tells toda he's leaving her in his care and runs off, just before she starts coughing up blood

she says "I asked you to fill a difficult role, didn't I, toda" and thanks him for following her all this time

the kunitomo are all trying to climb the cliff like she asked and somebody's like THE LEADER IS WATCHING TOO SO DO YOUR BEST except then they look and obvs she's not watching lmao

they're like "huh? she's not there" and then yuuma says IT CAN'T BE-- and ofc off she goes...

cut to some soldiers like ??? are those signals...??? there sure a lot of them... WAIT COULD IT BE THE EXIT and I guess they're trying to escape because they're like WE CAN GET OUT LET'S GO

okuni's like jeez they're all riled up and then toubee crashes into her... okuni's like TOUBEE???? WTF ARE YOU DOING HERE and toubee's like oh okuni you're here too great so I just sent up a bunch of signals, I'll leave the (she says "emergency exit signs" lmao but you know what I mean) to you"

okuni's like emerg--what, wtf are you gonna do in that state, WAIT DON'T TELL ME-- but toubee cuts her off and says that she once saved toubee from imprisonment (I think?) and that she's going to repay that debt now, "so please don't get in my way"

okuni says "in this sort of situation... isn't bringing that up now too unfair (/sneaky/cunning/etc)?" and toubee says "if I wasn't then I couldn't be a leader now could I"

cut to baren's crew, somebody notices the smoke signals and says FUCK THEY'RE RUNNING AWAY

baren tells them to gather the archers around the entrance, like well, if they're gonna all gather up like that then that's great for us /KANYESHRUG

then there's an explosion, someone's like DID SOMEONE'S GUN ACCIDENTALLY GO OFF and baren's like "no, there shouldn't be that quantity of gunpowder in the fortress???"

toubee's shooting at them and trying to blow them up while thinking about seimei's words, and I think she says HEH, THAT PIECE OF SHIT DID ME A FAVOR (which I guess makes sense if she doesn't know that baren intentionally tried to save her but oh well)

an archer tries to get her but she beats him, AND THEN I'M NOT ENTIRELY SURE WHAT'S HAPPENING she's shooting at them?? or throwing grenades??? SOMETHING... anyway she thinks "yuuma nii-chan... everyone... thank you for supporting someone like me. you gave me pride as a leader, so until the very last moment--" and then she gets shot again

the archers are like DID YOU FINALLY STOP, GEEZ YOU'RE TENACIOUS YOU'VE CAUSED US SO MUCH TROUBLE and "you kunitomos are all gonna die together here"

I'm still not quite sure what she's trying to say but I think it's something along the lines of the oumi kunitomo being both blacksmiths and soldiers as two sides of the same coin...? and that even if she dies her soul will be with them

the text says "this voice... will reach you... from anywhere... prosper, my beloved kunitomo"

and on the next page it's "on this day, kunitomo toubee is here!" and then BOOM

cut to the other soldiers, someone's like "did it stop??" and someone else says that it's a good opportunity, since the core of the fortress is destroyed so the soldiers will probably come back (to where they are I assume) and then ATTAAAAAACK and they fight

and then on the last page one of the archers is saying that the enemy is attacking and asks if they should ambush them, baren's thinking "the numbers are too different..." aka (we're outnumbered) and tanba pops up and tells him to retreat, baren's like ! and tanba says "throw away the fortress" THE END
