ch41 starts with Hattori Masanari thinking about Nobukatsu's troops, and that they're probably planning to take down yoshioka fortress and meet up with the other troops

up ahead is houjirou, where momochi's fortress is

then I'm not 100% sure... he's basically thinking about numbers vs. tough spots and he thinks that iga falling is problem of time... I *think* he's thinking that they won't necessarily win with just numbers if they get in a tight spot but I can't say for sure orz

anyway, somebody calls him out like HATTORI HANZOU THE SECOND and he throws a kunai, then he's like "?? a dragonfly??"

the voice says SCARY SCARY apparently ieyasu's dogs are quick

then I guess it's a bunch of dragonflies?? they're saying "are you doing reconnaissance here? or are you worried about your hometown of iga? or maybe you're seeking revenge for your dead father..."

hattori says "magic, huh..." and thinks it's not a shinobi, then says his father's already retired and has no relation to the "hattori" used by tokugawa

the dragonfly's like HMMM WHAT'S IEYASU DOING LETTING HIS DOGS OUT oho maybe he's interested in nogunaga's movements~~~~ and hattori is like "........"

the dragonfly says "or is his true desire the 'scroll'...? kuku... ieyasu is aiming for the orochi too huh. him betraying that nobunaga would be a sight worth seeing"

hattori's like this conversation ain't goin anywhere if you keep making speculations

then idk what dragonfly dude is talking about HE'S JUST BEING A DICK talking about parasites and teaching iga about infestations idk raises hands IT DOESN'T MATTER bc then hattori slices him into bits like I DON'T LIKE GOSSIP

he watches the dragonfly disintegrate and thinks "if there's an ability user involved who knows about the scroll... then this battle... could something be happening with the orochi legend"

cut to baren who's setting up the traps and yelling "HURRY UP BLOCK THE ROADS WE HAVE NO TIME, THE ONES WE CRUSHED EARLIER WERE JUST ONE PART, BY DAWN THEY'RE GONNA LAUNCH A HUGE ATTACK how's the height, do we have enough, etc etc" as tanba observes (and listens with his spidey senses I guess)

kaishin shows up and tanba's like "how is *that*?", he says "it's as you saw. He's taken the initiative and begun moving. Surprisingly everyone's following him obediently. You approved him so there's that of course but today's frontal assault was pretty effective"

Kaishin says "Truly." and then I think he says baren's even calmly considered that if it goes badly he'll be dead in a second... either that or "even if things went wrong and he ended up in the afterlife immediately he'd be chill" lmfao but I'm leaning towards the first

one of them says "I'm looking forward to it" but they say it with a verb conjugation that's like... scornful or full of contempt lmfao

then one of them, I'm assuming tanba since it's his face but speech bubbles?? raises hands... anyway they're like "it's proof he's falling" (for iga I assume) "it's a good omen"

cut to baren who's like HEY YO OVER THERE DON'T LEAVE ANY GAPS and somebody says "here?", baren's like "no, to the right-- not you--"

the person is like ???? while baren points of them like "eh... ah... uh" and then just yanks off their face thing lmfao

then he yells at everyone to take their face cloths off (bc it slows their movements I guess), the other ninjas are like "but it's dangerous for us to expose our faces in battle--" and baren is like "yeah and you might die tomorrow dumbass"

he says "I have no interest in giving my life to someone whose face I don't know"

he asks for the person's name and they say "sa... saizou..." and he's like great saizou take this and dunks some wood in his hand lmfao

then he yells IF YOU FINISH QUICK YOU CAN REST!! YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO GET ANY SLEEP TOMORROW" and "SAIZOUUU ANSWER ME" and saizou is like "uh... yeah"

some kid is one of the first ones to take off his cloth, he tugs on baren's sleeve and says I'M MOMOCHI HYOUROKU!! I'M A BATTLE NINJA!!

baren says "hyouroku, you come with me to check on the weapons." hyouroku says "YESSIR" and baren's like "good response"

hyouroku says "we can win, right?!" and baren smiles and says "I plan to"

everyone else awkwardly starts taking off their face cloths, then cut to ako who is sulking...

goemon is like "ako... that face again..." and the other ninja is like "hey, don't slack off", ako is like UGHGHGHGHGHG WHY DOES EVERYONE LIKE HIM!!!!!!!! HE KILLED OUR BRETHREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

goemon's like "well, sometimes ninjas become enemies on the battlefield. Even if they're killed, you should also understand that there are no hard feelings, right ako?"

ako says "but... until now, tanba-san never took in anybody because they were a "kid" or "grandkid" or whatever, so why only him..." and background ninja just quietly ellipses

goemon either says "well who knows what tanba-san is thinking anyway" or asks ako what they think about tanba-san... I feel like it's the latter but also ako is p obvious so idk why he'd ask?? idk

anyway ako says TANBA-SAN IS GOD

goemon is like ??? and ako says "god doesn't belong to anyone. that's why I've given up. If I don't think of it that way, I'll start feeling greed" (or desire ig fits too) and goemon says "ako..."

the text says "look at me. look only at me" and ako says sth like I WISH EVERYTHING REFLECTED IN TANBA-SAN'S EYES WOULD BURST OPEN and background ninja is like "that sounds like a scene straight outta hell" lmfao

ako says "I thought you and ouka were the same as me though" and background ninja says "of course I feel respect. If not for that person, I wouldn't be who I am today" and then he starts to say something about ouka but she passes by in the background and ako's like OH SPEAK OF THE DEVIL lmf

I assume it's ako who says both "wow she's strong" and "OI OI WHAT'S HE DOING TALKING TO SHITTY EYEPATCH" and asks background ninja why he's always fighting with ouka

the dude says "she's the one in the wrong" and goemon says sth about how ouka said ichiha... I think turned on them?? or attacked them or something... anyway the other guy says he doesn't like her inferiority complex

he complains about how she doesn't consider herself an iga ninja I think... because they aren't momochi natives?? and she constantly feels inferior because of it

he starts getting really annoyed and ako's like "oh yeah I guess y'all have been together since you were 5 huh"

he says "even though she should just ignore whatever other people (furigana: trash) say..." and someone (I assume ako) comments "it's a problem of ouka's feelings..."

he says the one who's built up the wall is ouka herself, and "aren't I the idiot for recognizing her then?"

goemon says "if you're that worried you could treat her more nicely" and he's like WORRIED? ME?? IS YOUR HEAD OKAY???

ako makes some comment about horse poop idk but then she's like "ah, it looks like she's smiling"

he very subtly yells OUKA!!!! and goes up to them, he says "what are you doing slacking off" and ouka is like "what's this so suddenly, do you wanna die" and ako says a~ah

he says "we're short on people as it is, if you have time to chat it up with outsiders then you're wasting all that strength" and she says "outsiders..."

ouka thinks "if you put it that way, then I too..." and he says "no"

"you are momochi. a crow acknowledged by tanba-san. When we die, it's together."

ouka says "that's..."

he says "it's unthinkable that I'd die while you live on anyway" and she's like "when I die I'll drag you down with me"

they wander off bickering while baren smirks in the background like AHH YOUTH...

he watches them walk away and thinks "ouka, huh... okuni did say so, that among the crows there were people of a different nature" (he uses the phrase "fur color" or "hair color" but that's what he means)

he flashes back to okuni talking about her superhuman strength, and says "when I had a fever, she was concerned about me. ...I think" lmfao okuni... she says "she's hard to understand but she's definitely a gentle child"

okuni says "it must be hard to live in iga... I feel like that child isn't suited to be a shinobi" and baren thinks "I figured okuni was just selfishly worrying about her, but..." (as in, okuni decided she was a good kid just based on her own experiences)

then I assume this is the conversation ako & co. were watching, ouka approaches and says "kumou baren"

she says "your twin..." and baren says "ah?", she says "kumou okuni... I heard she's alive. About her injuries..."

baren's like oh yeah the worst has p much passed, right now she's hanging around those rats

ouka blushes and says "is that so..."

he thinks "she's totally gotten attached" and idk if he means ouka or okuni but tbh it works either way, then he thinks "now we've got a meddler we don't need AGAIN" and even though he uses rude language (the same as the one that was "with disdain or contempt" earlier) he's grinning and says "well, it's like 'that person'"

THEN SUDDENLY, TANBA who says "as I thought, I should've brought her along too, huh"

baren goes !!! and tanba says "HI what a nice night"

he sits and baren says "don't sit down", tanba says "you did well today. I have high expectations for tomorrow too" and baren says "don't talk to me"

tanba says "ouka seems quite concerned about okuni, did something happen?"

baren's like "who knows, as you can see okuni likes women and children, maybe she felt somethin" (towards/about ouka)

tanba says "Hmm, I wonder who she gets that from" and baren says "it's not you"

tanba says "I see, so she resembles asahi" and baren says "don't say that name"

tanba says "she was very popular in the village, you know"

baren says "...hey, how long are you going to keep up this joke?" and the text outside the bubble says "it's annoying"

Then it's a little weird, I'm not quite sure how to phrase it but tanba is basically saying "you only know about your mom from oumi" bc then he says "But this place has different memories"

tanba says "she came to this fortress too." and then if I'm interpreting this right "she fell dramatically from that lookout right there and skillfully broke her bones" LMFAO barenmama please

he says "she had a loud voice, so in the quiet of the shinobi village you could always tell where she was. that was funny too."

tanba calls after him "don't get tied down" and baren's like !!

"I don't know about this "ancestral duty" or anything" and then idk how to say it exactly but I think he's asking if baren plans on ending his who whole life as a protector of (a/the??) vessel...

"what is it you really want to do? don't mistake your purpose in life"

"make the world remember your name. If it's you, you can do it."

Baren says "...crowns don't suit me"

(technically he says "the top/summit/etc" but I liked that ^ better)

tanba says hmph and thinks he won't get on board so easily... and wonders if he could've swayed okuni with emotions a little more

the text says "I have no interest in a direct line. That's why, though I have a lot of children and descendants, I've never acted like a father and I don't intend to."

he says "I'll use what I can use, that's that."

He thinks back to baren saying "she was the sun" and thinks "No matter what, when people talk about you, everyone thinks of your good faces before anything else."

flashback to asahi crying and "I can only remember the last time I saw your face."

cut to baren stomping off and thinking about tanba's last words of "don't get tied down" and "don't mistake your purpose in life", and he's like THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN "MISTAKE"

he thinks "I have no intention of getting tied down by my duty. I've just never once thought about other options, that's it."

he remembers tanba saying "what do you really want to do?" and "make the world remember your name"

he has a bunch of flashbacks and then thinks "hah, what am I thinking... leaving Okuni alone, there's no--"

then he thinks of her and sakichi and stops, and says "...no, I guess it's fine now." and that's it
