"We are living in a real life snow globe!"

That photo of my child, peacefully starting out the window takes me back to the years before we fled. The bitter cold winters, isolation, and stillness outside were perfectly poised with the terror, suffering, and devastation inside. Rage burned as the world froze.

I would catch myself staring out the window into the whiteness removing the colors of autumn, longing to camouflage myself and my children with the gently delicate flakes. Or last northern winter was in 2015.

Arizona became our home is a calculated, deliberate choice to flee from the increasing terror including threats to our very existence. We've embraced the warm desert with sunshine healing our deepest, darkest wounds. And today, I cannot help but look back and see just how far we've come.

Today, snow falls in the Arizona desert and we illuminate our beautiful, joyous life we bravely chose to create.

That real life snow globe shattered and we are no longer captive.
