Alright so examples from games I've been in:
Straightforward AC 1: 20 comments from you in the month of AC. (Extra comments convert to bonus points, no expiration date.) Thread can be started whenever.
Straightforward AC 2: Any 2 of those:
- 10 network comments
- 5 log comments
- a new post.
Straightforward AC 3: 30 points from you. A comment is worth 1 point and post/new toplevel is worth 5 points, a thread where your character is singing Broadway-style is worth 2 points a comment.

So basically you read these and you immediately know what to expect, how many comments you will need and how to get them. While it still helps to keep a threadtracker, it's not a necessity. I can click on my tag at the end of the month and just count my comments, since save for rewards for "special" threads, points correspond to comments and it doesn't matter who the thread is with. Easy peasy.

In comparison, WTL needs a whole separate page to explain point calculations, and it's NECESSARY to log all your threads, as otherwise it's literally impossible to remember whether you've threaded with a character before or not. Needing Excel sheets just to count AC is needlessly complicated, in my opinion. (And "new" characters always eventually run out and won't necessarily replenish, so while it makes sense as a bonus to encourage out-of-cast threading, maybe there should be alternatives.)

I'm still not entirely sure whether "10 comments reached in a thread" applies to both parties, or only comment from me.

So, since I always like to play safe, I walk away from this AC with "I need to make 50 comments every month to pass AC". And that's a bit extreme even for a main game in current DWRP standards. I was considering it as secondary/side game so that immediately made me NOPE right out. I mean that's on me, but hey, maybe some of this'll be useful.
