"Once, there was a pair of twin gods, who fought for one of the seats of heaven together. The older, a wise and kind soul, who loved her people and who had never found reason to raise a blade, and the younger, who trained in every moment to become a master of the martial arts. While the battle for this seat raged across the world, the younger sister - knowing the older would never survive in such a conflict - took it upon herself to win the seat in her stead, acting as her kagemusha. Over the course of it, the younger sister gave up her form, but in doing so, finally ensured her sister would rule for eternity. The story goes that, moved by her younger sister's sacrifice, she was able to use her new divine power to reshape her and summon her back from oblivion, to continue to rule at her side."

Steel said that even the power of the gods cannot bring people back, and that these sorts of stories only lead us to false hopes. She's found solace in the protection of her home, and of ensuring its peace. She had the power to end pain and fear and loss, so she did.

----

Steel also explained that why she wants to fix the nature of the world. To allow an everlasting and peaceful eternity. With balance, loss cannot take hold, and no one would ever lose another person. She told another story:

"Once, my friend was swallowed by a beast of great sin. She fought her way free, slew the beast, and returned to us, but something in her had changed that day. When she later turned her blade on me, I fought her, as I had fought any other beast that threatened our peace." She said that that's the trade the make for caring: that you are obligated to never let them become something they would not want to be. And that we accept them into ourselves so deeply that it takes a part of you with them, when they leave.
