Edit: re: Zionism. So there was an amazing discussion recently between Trevor Noah and Jon Stewart talking about diaspora vs. zionism, because Africa ALSO has a zionism form ditto; diaspora. But rather than God (or millennia of traveling and not really being "home") doing it, it was colonialism and a few centuries rapidly dragging them away. And then the zionism for Africans is still the idea some have that they have be in Africa to be safe. Trevor Noah also echoes that it's common "black" discussion wrt Israel that the only way for Israel to not harm other countries is they have to be made to actually feel safe enough not to feel so threatened. This is extremely EXTREMELY relevant to NYC in particular because Jon Stewart and Trevor Noah obviously both lived in and hosted the Daily Show for years, and with Mamdani, as a black Muslim in NYC after 9/11; he is keenly aware of many sides of the Israel discussion about its safety, and what it is like to have existential terror for your religion and/or lineage. And he is saying he wants Jewish not to have to feel like they have to be in Israel itself to be safe, but rather that that whole world should be safe for them, and since he can't guarantee that, the best he can do as Mayor is do everything in his capacity to make NYC safe for them -- just as (golden rule) he would want done for him.

It's so beautiful, it's one of the biggest things giving me hope this last week despite the horrors.
