Fastest jumpdrive in the galaxy....60 years ago. Most intricate and integrated Artificial Intelligence system ever created...No, that's still true. But the problem with being a most advanced AI ever created, integrated to an Intergalactic Protectorate search and rescue cruiser more than 100 years old? The fact that the ship will fail before the AI does. PRC-833125 had lived with the sensation of its "body" falling apart around it. And then? It was decommissioned. Put to sleep for 30 years to preserve the AI until someone could figure out exactly how to replicate it. Finally they decided that the only way to manage that might be to wake the AI up and slap it into a non-ship body so they could study it. So of course, they did. For science. And PRC-833125 woke up in a body that wasn't theirs, one that it didn't want. It wasn't supposed to look like a "person." Its job was to go out into the universe and save lives. Find stranded ships and help navigate them back to safe ports, or to collect the crew and get them to a Hub. And where did this body come from anyway? Did it belong to someone else first? Did they make it specifically for PRC-833125? Why didn't they just pick another SPACESHIP to download it into? It didn't understand. So Park made a deal. Help this crazy and overfunded R&D department solve the riddle of how it ticks and they promised they would not only return Park to its ship, it would be upgraded, recommissioned, and given a new partner so Park could patrol and save people out in the depths of space again. And somehow the deadline keeps being pushed back more and more as more and more missions come up that they need Park's help with. And Park likes helping people so at first it lets it happen, because saving lives is its primary directive. Then it realized that a year has passed. And then another. Another six months. The only true peace that Park ever felt was when it was integrating itself into another spaceship. It wasn't the same. It wasn't PRC's ship, but it was closer, truer. And so PRC decided if they weren't going to hold up their end of the bargain, it'd hire a black market mercenary group to steal back its cruiser, find someone who could put it back where it belonged, and accomplish its directive that way. If they wouldn't play by the rules they set, PRC would make its own rules. The problem is that its ship is so broken down because the parts are out of production. Have been for sixty years. How is it going to change that? Reverse polarity hyper jump drive into the past to get all the parts, of course. Fool proof plan! Maybe. |
