Manuel “Meme” Uribe Garza was once listed by the Guinness book of world records as the heaviest man in the world weighing about 597 kg (1,316 lb) last 2006. Since then, year 2002, he was unable to walk and leave his bed due to morbid obesity. His doctors helped him with his problem and on February 2008, he lost about 230 kg (510 lb), nearly half of his weight. He was bedridden for more than a decade depending on his parents and friends to feed and clean him.

The cause of his death was not yet confirmed as of now. It was said that he was admitted and carried through a crane last May 2 because of abnormal heart beat. Aside from the problems with his heart, he was also thought to have had problems with his liver. Maybe complications of his illness as an obese person triggered his death.

Manuel Uribe as a teenager weighed like a 5 stone, that is 115 kilogram and from that moment on, his weight began to increase and increase more. During his second marriage to Claudia Solis, it really was a big wedding. He was carried through a big truck with a bed in it. During that special event he was still eyed by his doctors to watch his diet. He was able to maintain his diet but still was unable to walk for many years until his death this March 27.

It’s amazing Manuel Uribe became known to whole world, but through a not so good title he bears. It’s really important to discipline ourselves in our lifestyle because this is what we will bear for the rest of our lives. Let it be a lesson to all of us to be not like Manuel Uribe, the world’s former heaviest Mexican Man who dies at a young age 48.
