On the morning of September 12, at 8:33AM, I received a call from a man at the communications/media department at Bonneville Power informing me that a very irate male had called demanding I be fired over a social media post I had made in regards to Charlie Kirk's shooting. I expressed confusion as to how they had connected me to BPA as I am politically active on social media, but my social media accounts do not list BPA as my employer. He assured me I was in no kind of trouble, that I'm allowed to express my political opinions, and their offices were "aware" that I was politically active. He wanted to let me know security had been notified for my safety and asked me to simply consider if it was "worth it" to make these posts. I thanked him and went on with my day. I missed a call at 12:16PM from my direct employer, CorSource (Gabriela Rose specifically), with whom I have had my contract at BPA for the last year and a half, as this was during my lunch hour. I called back minutes later, and was informed that BPA had severed my contract effective immediately. They said they had been informed it was due to a Twitter post, and I expressed confusion as I have a Twitter account but haven't used it in years. She recieved additional clarification that a Twitter post had made BPA aware that I had a LinkedIn account where I had neglected to select "Contractor" in the drop-down for that account and that was the reason I was being let go. Gabi informed me that a Twitter post had made them aware of this information. To my knowledge, and the knowledge of other contractors I have spoken to at BPA, this is not standard practice. When our signatures switched, anyone who had not complied with the proper notation of "contractor" in their profile received a reminder to do so. No warning, no conversation, no reminder had come in regards to this LinkedIn profile change. None of my bosses at BPA had any awareness of this when I reached out to them. I hadn't touched my LinkedIn profile information since I came on board and frankly simply hadn't thought about it. Later that day a Twitter thread was brought to my attention. Apparently through this thread, hundreds of thousands of people called demanding I be fired. Death threats were made (confirmed with me by CorSource HR lead Lakesha Williams). I believe the real reason for my contract severance was a result of the pressure behind this effort. An attorney at BPA reached out to me and suggested I bring this to an employment attorney to see if that was the case. She recommended I start with Joel, who recommended this firm. I'm truly not sure what, if anything, can be done here, but I thought reaching out to someone who knew substantially more than me about these matters could let me know either way.
