1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 | this is truly straight up an extremely authentic movie by Deaf people every step of the way. when they're in bed together hana shaking ayumi awake to show her the text message. one handed signing while they're using chopsticks to eat eggs the movie opens with Hana breaking up with her boyfriend saying she's met someone else who makes her happy, a woman. then flashback to one year ago when Hana and Ayumi were first getting to know each other. among other things, they take a bath together. not even a public bath or anything, this is literally just a bath in someone's apartment. THEN later at a park Hana says I'd date you if you were a man. and Ayumi is like hey you know two girls CAN date just saying. Hana's job is sweeping the floor at a hair salon for the Deaf. this was fun to see hana's mom: "have you slept with her?" me: what the FUCK hana: "yeah, we love each other" well you hear a lot about the openness in Deaf culture but this was a real example Ayumi is like hang on I took gender studies in college. And puts out a paper showing that Gender, Body, and Romantic Attraction can all be on a spectrum from male to female. She's here like, Gender Female, Body Female, Romantic Attraction in the middle. What about you. Hana is like me too, me too, hm... CROSSES THE LAST ONE OUT AND WRITES AYUMI TOO CUTE AYUMI WRITES 'HANA" TOO... seeing the cafe where Ayumi works and when Hana paid 600 yen for her drink and sandwich. and put down a 500 yen coin and 100 yen coin. it was also interesting that sometimes they'd subtitle "hey" or "thanks" at times that I'd think of as just nodding or waving at someone and not words. A really bittersweet part of this was when someone who had been through a difficult time was being cradled in his rescuer's arms, and she waited patiently without signing anything since it's not like he was even opening his eyes I'm omitting most of the description of what happens at the LGBT meetup event because I feel like it's a spoiler but it was so nice and heartwarming in the end despite the tribulations masato tsujioka had a "special appearance" in the credits and I looked it up and he is a rather famous hearing actor and the role he had was when a hearing guy starts hitting on Hana when she gets out of the train station. truly that guy playing the heel there and showing how invasive hearing people can be sometimes |
