1 2 3 4 5 6 7 | The last HH book I read was book 9: Ashes of Victory, published in the year 2000, where Duchess-Officer Honor "Literally Best At Everything" Harrington returns to the Star Kingdom of Manticore, wounded but victorious, commanding in a fleet she stole, crewed by escaped prisoners. She has her lost arm replaced with a superior robot arm with a gun in it, and is promoted to Admiral. Well, she was already Admiral with Grayson, but now she can be Admiral of Manticore, too. Admiral Honor Harrington sets out to win the day from her flagship, the stupendous Honor Harrington-class Superdreadnought Honor Harrington. The GSN Honor Harrington was revolutionary, the first of Grayson's new "podnoughts," which could shoot tons of missiles faster than ever by shitting out clouds of disposable missile-shooting guns. This wacky, implausible bullshit was pioneered of course by Honor Harrington, and when combined with revolutionary new missiles, proceeded to rewrite combat in Honorverse. Where battles were once dull affairs, with little meaningful maneuvering, they were now extremely dull affairs, with no meaningful maneuvering. Their enemy, the People's Republic of Haven, responded to this new development by crying and exploding, until finally being forced to sign a cease fire, thus preventing all future war, forever. Then Haven's government collapsed and became the Regular Republic of Haven. Actually, I may have stopped reading partway through that book. |
