There was someone here. For so long they had existed alone. Drifting in this space. Life was all around them in the wood and they were a part of them. Could not remember a time when they were not part of them. They are the forest and the forest is them. They are one.

So to notice that someone is in their forest is...strange. No one enters the forest.

It makes them curious, eager, and maybe they overstep by using the forest to help them follow this stranger. Tracking their movements through the forest. A human female, looking in distress as she hurries through the trees, stumbling over the undergrowth. They crept closer, listening to the heavy breathing, echoing sounds of disruption in the quiet wood.

And then the human female fell, tripping over an upraised root that they were certain the tree did on purpose and they would have to talk to them about. She lay there crying and gasping, grasping at the ground around her as she continued to crawl her way deeper and deeper toward the center of the forest. They couldn't stand the way she cried, the way she struggled. They had to do something.

They circled her, cautious, worried and suddenly she went silent. She was frozen. What was wrong? Was she dying?

They crept closer, moving so carefully. They didn't want to startle her.

She turned her head, catching sight of them and screamed.

They were so startled that they screamed, too.

And as they screamed the trees around them began to shrivel and whither, animals began to flee, birds cawing and screeching in tandem. The forest was twisting and turning on itself unable to hadle the force of their reaction but they couldn't help it. They were so startled by her reaction that they echoed her.

She covered her ears and they finally managed to stop themselves, mossy claws coming up to block anymore noise coming from their gaping maw. This is why they didn't make sounds. Sounds were bad. They had to be quiet. Oh so quiet. Because when they spoke, the world died.
