In September, 2020, the widely respected, Hamden-based poll showed Joe Biden with a 10-point lead over then-President Trump, who then had a 56 percent unfavorable rating among voters. The Biden-Harris ticket eventually won with 51.3 percent of the national vote, to Trump and Mike Pence's 46.8 percent.

Monday's poll shows a statistical dead heat, with Trump and Ohio Sen. JD Vance at 49 percent and Harris, who has yet to name a running mate or even receive the official Democratic nomination in next month's convention, at 47 percent. Trump currently has a 46 percent favorable rating - his highest since the poll started asking the question in 2015 - to go with a 49 percent unfavorable number. Two percent of respondents said they haven’t heard enough about the former one-term president.
