My white cell count was 15,000. I got an antibiotic shot and started oral antibiotics. On Tuesday, I had repeat blood work done. The inflammatory markers were down considerably. So that's good. My white cell count went up. To 16,200. She (the Wound Care Specialist/nurse practitioner) said my white count has been up since she started treating me about two years ago. This has never been addressed even though she has told my primary doctor about it. So now she's decided to do something about it. I have a referral pending for a hematologist to get a full workup done. She said, "I don't want this to scare you because our hematologist is in oncology. I don't want you to think you have cancer or anything, but that's just where they are." OK. Fine. It'll take a couple weeks to get in to them because not only are they in oncology, but our hospital does not have a dedicated hematologist. They share with another hospital. She also said that some people just make excess white cells. If that's the case, we need to know that too. So there's that. My left leg is getting better. Again. It had opened back up and she actually considered putting me in the hospital right before Thanksgiving. The antibiotic shot was to hopefully prevent that. (It did.) On Tuesday, I got a compression wrap because it had healed enough for that. (It was "too ugly" before.) Yesterday, I went back. It was better again but still needed a wrap. OK. Let's do it. We've been taking care of a dime-sized spot on my right shin. It hasn't been getting any better, but it hasn't been getting any worse, either. She said she thought it would benefit from a wrap too. O....kay.... So I have two compression wraps. And is sucks! I feel like I waddle when I walk. When I stand up, it takes me a minute to get steady before I can do what I need to do. (This means no waiting for the last minute for a pee break. lol) And now I'm trying to figure out how I can go to the band Christmas concert at the school tomorrow. My oldest niece is a senior and this is her last Christmas concert. She plays clarinet. My nephew is a freshman and this is his first high school Christmas concert. He plays tuba/bassoon. I think I have it figured out. I'm going to sit in the pickup with my feet up during the elementary/junior high portions of the concert. When they're doing those awards, they'll text me and I'll go in for the high school and jazz band parts. And I don't know if I've said it here or not, but... I had an appointment with a vascular specialist a couple weeks ago. I will have an angiogram on December 12 so we can see what's going on there. I know this was long. I'm sorry about that, but there's been so much the past two weeks that it took a while. |
