First to the Keeper, then Keeper -- a proud Dalish elf who continues the traditions and culture of her people in the face of adversity. It's this image that she strives to uphold and forms the basis of her identity; Dalish elf first, mage second, and the rest follows. Her position as First has allowed her to submerge herself in the knowledge that Clan Lavellan had, unique and otherwise, and Lavellan herself readily devoured it with an eagerness that many appreciated from their First.

Her position as First helped Lavellan value the preservation and the dissemination of knowledge more than almost anything; her dedication to the elven god Dirthamen serves as an extension of this. She holds a healthy respect for the truth, and seeks to uncover whatever that may be at every available chance. A natural curiosity about the world and the people in it, coupled with an ability to respect, discover, and keep secrets -- Lavellan takes her duty seriously.

But that doesn't mean she has to be serious while doing it. Blessed with a wry sense of humor, plenty of wit, and the ability to be self-deprecating when needed, Lavellan manages keep herself afloat amongst all the demands placed on her -- as First, and then as Inquisitor. Her humor isn't completely a coping mechanism, but Lavellan feels as if her job would be a lot harder to deal with if she wasn't able to approach it humorously. But when the cards are down and she needs to make difficult decisions, Lavellan tends to follow her gut instinct for better or worse.

While her humor may seem ill-suited to some, she's not without compassion. Rather, Lavellan feels deeply and always, letting her emotions rule over logic. Second chances are important to her, but at the same time those who have personally caused some slight against those Lavellan holds dear deserve what's coming to them. And as Inquisitor, 'what's coming to them' is normally some sort of form of murder. She strives for some sort of balance, doing her best to maintain the appearance of dignity and professionalism, and generally succeeds with those who don't know her well enough to call her on it. But as her time as Inquisitor goes on, the endless petty demands of an unthankful Thedas wear on her, and the cracks of anger begin to show through. Things can't stay fixed, and the dual nature of being expected to save the world and yet be demonized for doing her job wears on her; it's easier to just be angry than attempt to appeal to diplomats who don't care.

Like any mage, Lavellan is also possessed with a willful nature. Age has tempered impetuousness into an ability to stick to her decisions and a willingness to call out companions for decisions she disagrees with. This has led to contentious relationships with Sera, Cassandra, and Vivienne over the Dalish, the Chantry, and magic; and puts the conversation on rocky ground with Dorian regarding slavery. Lavellan doesn't believe in playing nice just to make everyone get along; at the same time she doesn't expect her companions to like her. She can't make everyone happy, and refuses to lie to them in order to convince them she agrees with every single one of their decisions.

No great manipulator, Lavellan is perfectly willing to wield her power in ways that she believes will make Thedas a better place -- as she sees it. Thedas is far from perfect, but Lavellan doesn't see it as a mistake that has to be corrected. Instead the continent is a work in progress -- one she hopes to have helped become a little more accepting of the marginalized and slighted; the state of Thedas' elves being her highest priority. But she truly believes that the choices she has made will benefit Thedas, if only because the opposite is unthinkable.

Revelations about the nature of Dalish culture and faith completely shatter the very foundations of her identity -- who is she if what she's dedicated her life to keeping is wrong? Lavellan has lost both her future with her clan -- she can't go back and preserve and promote a narrative that is incorrect -- and the Inquisition -- disbanded because it had accomplished what it was meant to do. Adrift in uncertainty, Lavellan teeters on the edge of an deep identity crisis.

Her education, overseen by the Keeper of the clan, comprised all of the clan's knowledge of elvhen history, language, and magic. Unlike the majority of the other elves of her clan, Elera Lavellan can both read and write in common; her knowledge of Elvhen as a language beyond the recited passages that all Dalish clans know only extends to those written sources in the clan's possession.

It was her love of the knowledge she had access to in her position as First that lead Lavellan to choose the vallaslin that represented Dirthamen -- god of secrets and knoweldge -- when she turned eighteen. Her fondness for secrets came later, a result of intensive reflection and meditation on the god and what it meant for her. Her duties as First allowed Lavellan to develop a deep sense of connection with her culture; proud and defensive of it in the face of the Chantry and the culture of the shemlen.

When the humans announced the Conclave to discuss the war between templars and mages, Lavellan was chosen to spy on the proceedings by her Keeper. The motivating factors for this decision are twofold: Clan Lavellan's Second had recently become capable of taking over Lavellan's duties should something happen to her, and her dedication to the truth and keeping secrets from others made Elera Lavellan the only candidate capable of turning into a spy.

Long believing that the events at the Conclave were mere chance, and remaining devoted to the Elvhen gods, it would take until being named Inquisitor before Lavellan began wielding the power given to her eagerly. Declaring the Inquisition 'for all', Lavellan's priority became those without the means to enact change within Thedas. Her unwavering support for the elves of Thedas is the most visible aspect of this policy, as is allying with the mages and promising them freedom. This support, however, is done without thinking of the consequences -- Elera is willing to sacrifice the stability of Orlais to put Briala in power, the stability of the future of the Chantry to make Leliana Divine, and law and order to support the mages.

WORLD STATE

ORIGINS;
Female Mahariel Warden, warrior.
Alistair romanced.
Dark ritual complete; Warden lives.
Anora queen.

DRAGON AGE TWO;
Female Hawke, mage.
Purple Hawke.
Sided with the mages.
Anders lived.
Romanced Merrill.

INQUISITION;
All companions recruited.
Recruited mages, offered freedom.
Clan Lavellan lives.
Gaspard emperor, Briala pulls strings.
Hawke left in the Fade.
Wardens pardoned.
Allied with Sentinels.
Drank from the Well of Sorrows.
Leliana made Divine.
Vowed to redeem Solas.
Disbanded the Inquisition.

COMPANION CHOICES;
Cole made more spirit.
Dorian encouraged to reconcile with his father.
House of Repose contract destroyed.
Cullen encouraged to remain off lyrium.
Solas allowed to kill the mages.
Sera allowed to kill NAME HERE.
Cassandra encouraged to rebuild Seekers.
Vivienne given the snowy wyvern heart.
Iron Bull saved Chargers.
Blackwall sent to the Wardens.
Leliana softened.
Varric invited the Inquisitor to a game of Wicked Grace.

ABILITIES

Mages manipulate reality by pulling on BLAH BLAH FADE BLAH BLAH MANA ok basically: they control elemental forces and bend reality to their will.
