Yivan Xel is timeless. A being that has traversed the universe, seen worlds born and seen others die. It can take on any form is desires, meld itself into any species, any civilization. But in many ways it will never be one of them. For Yivan Xel is the Guardian of Death. Charged with guarding the Gates to the Other World, where all in its sector go when they die, from the outside, but never allowed to look within the gates itself. Yivan Xel is Power, the ability to rip apart a universe in a moment should it be ordered to and rebuild it in the image of All, the True Voice that governs everything in existence. It does not decide who lives or dies, only ensures they reach the Gates as they are meant to.

But in watching all the creatures and beings, both light and dark enter the Realm of the Dead, Yivan Xel has become curious. It wants to know more. It wants to understand these creatures that it meets at the Gates only at their Ends and never their Beginnings. And so, after millinnia of proud, honorable, obedient service, Yivan met a being it chose...to return to his living form. A child. He died in a tragic accident, bullied and left to die in an abandoned well by other children from his town. Yivan could not understand this. It wanted to learn, to understand why this child could be discarded, how easily others of his kind could leave him to exposure and starvation.

So it saved this child and in doing so ripped itself from the Gates and took the boy back to Earth itself. Only in breaking its connection, Yivan also broken the One Rule it had been given. To never leave the Gates. In punishment, the True Voice cast him away, forcing it to remain trapped on Earth in a corporeal form, cursed to watch not only this child grow, age, die, but everyone in this child's bloodline, until a time would come that Yivan could prove the worth of the blood it damned itself to save.

But a Bound Guardian is so nigh unheard of that the beacon of its power transcends the universe, like a shining star for any with the power to see it. And those with True Sight can see the link between Yivan and the boy, Jason's bloodline, can see that using the Boy will give them Yivan. And thus Yivan has doomed the child again, unless it can save him.


Abilities: As a Bound Guardian, Yivan has the ability to shapeshift and remain in that form for hours at a time, but it must return to its primary body before it sleeps. Its primary form is that of a boy that was intended to die in a car accident the same day that Jason died. Because Yivan returned Jason to his body and left the Gates, the other boy's body was left alive, but his soul had already departed to the Other World. The boy's body is scarred terribly, particularly a bad burn up his back and over his shoulder and the jagged scar that crosses his face. Yivan has been forbidden from healing the body more than is necessary to keep it alive, but he is allowed to use his powers to heal others. Because of his primary form, Jason believes his name to be Sam Regis.
