(Thread) CN #XiaoLumi fic where Xiao & Lumine investigate the veracity of a love story between a yaksha & a tea-picking girl as material for Wang Ping'an's book about yakshas.

-It was said to have ended w/ the karma-ridden yaksha killing her before their wedding day.

At the village site, they discovered a chaotic time-space where an 'after-image' of the human girl, Ming, kept relieving her days right before her death for hundreds of years in a loop.

-She's been waiting for her fiance to return all this time, not knowing that it had already ended in tragedy.

Xiao & Lumine's presence caused a kind of resonance that enabled them to actually interact with the time-space, probably bc they're also yaksha & 'human girl'.

-"I know there's a chance that my fiance may never return to me. So I'd like to see the two of you in our wedding outfits."

Hypothesising that Ming might be the focal point of the spacial loop, and that fulfilling her wish might shed some light on how to break out of the-

-time-space, both Xiao and Lumine humour her request.

The next part of the events play out, showing that Ming didn't die by the hands of her yaksha fiance. The truth was much different.

The village had always been unstable so the yaksha originally used a magical artifact to-

-stabilise the leylines around it and reduce the frequency of earthquakes from ravaging the village. Removing it would cause disaster to the ppl living there.

-An outsider thief wanted the power of the artifact for himself so planned to use Ming to threaten the yaksha to hand over the artifact, since she is his weakness.

Ming didn't want her fiance to be forced to choose between his duty or her,

-as a yaksha's responsibility is firstly to protect Liyue and its people as a whole, so she killed herself.

The yaksha used the last of his powers to preserve the remnants of Ming's soul. Combined w/ the leylines' distortion, it resulted in the looping time-space.

-After his fiance died, the yaksha continued to guard the village she loved. At the end, when the body of a silver pheasant bird finally fell to the ground, a giant tree sprout in its place;

-its branches shelter a small temple where many generations continue to pay their respects & remember the tragedy before the story became eroded by time.
---
The whole thing lead Xiao and Lumine to be more honest w/ their feelings and they come out of it officially a couple. :)

-Xiao took a branch from the yaksha's tree and placed it in Pervases' temple so others could pay their respects.

'There are countless yakshas still scattered out there in the world but at least one more can be brought back to rest.'

-Wang Ping'an continues to work on his yaksha book whilst at the same time submitting a new manuscript to Wanwen Bookstore under a different pen name. The story's title: The Bossy Traveler and the Stunning Yaksha. (LOL)

-When Xiao goes to Pervases' temple to question Wang Ping'an with his Jade Winged-Spear, he only found a note: 'Don't worry. Out to look for materials.'

When asked about it, Lumine innocently denied knowing anything.

-"You do realise, there are numerous false tales in that book. Many of which are completely absurd and wild. Such things might damage your reputation."

"Things like?" Lumine tilts her head.

"...."

-Xiao could not bring himself to say it.

What's this locked room where you can't get out of without doing 'something'? Or the use of an elixir to suspend time-space...

-Lumine wraps her arms around his neck and kisses him gently, an impish smile on her face.

"These 'false tales'... If we make them a fact, one by one... they will no longer be false, right?"

:)
---

-Bonus:

"The way you looked at her is the same as the way he looks at me. You yakshas are always like this. Distancing yourself from others because you worry your karma will hurt us humans, but you don't realise that this is the easiest way to hurt those who love you." - Ming

"-Even if we don't get close to you, we mortals may die because of war, by theft, disease, or natural disasters. We will never survive as long as you. In this brief and limited lifetime, I don't want to have any regrets. I love him. No matter how it ends, I will not regret it."

-Ming trusted her yaksha with such conviction but when Xiao thinks of how their tale ultimately ended, he feels a burst of irony.

What was the yaksha thinking at the start of it all? Why did he keep this place in a loop?

To protect whom, or... to punish whom?
