I don't often send emails like this, but I have to reach out after the news I've been hearing tonight. Is itch.io really hiding -- or even deleting -- NSFW games and other works?

I've been using the site for years to play and purchase games, and I love how much more open it is than Steam. I was even looking forward to putting my own games on the site some day. But if you've really given in to the cries for censorship by the groups who claim to be "protecting" people, I'm going to have to drop the site and never look back.

The scumbags trying to censor works will never be satisfied. Their aim isn't to protect anyone, it's to control everyone, to stamp out every expression of sexuality that doesn't fall under their narrow views of the world. They don't give a damn about actually protecting children or adults from abuse. If they did, they'd be spending their money on actually preventing that abuse in reality! All they're doing is trying to ruin the careers of sex workers and queer creators, as a prelude to cutting them out of society altogether.

I hope itch.io doesn't intend to be complicit in this. If you have to, take a page from Dreamwidth, who use alternate payment processors rather than fold to censors. But don't just stand back and give the censors what they want. If you do, you certainly won't be receiving my business ever again.

Thank you for your time.
