All below this are the submitted questions and their answers posed during the Q&A. Director Jill: Will there be a 3rd sim this camp? This is the biggest question every year...originally we were set on two but I am a mush and I fail at standing my grounds when it comes to camp...the biggest problem with the 3rd sim like always is the additional cost of the sim and the connection fee....if we are able to have that paid separately, then we are open to it - if not, we can do two sims. IF we do the 3rd sim, we can add additional kids into camp. Director Jill: We have a donation booth out here http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Cookie%20Bay/121/59/25 if you are interested in helping to get the third sim (this does not guarantee you will get into camp obviously) .... also...if we are not able to raise the money, all of it will be returned. Director Jill: Theres a lot of questions about the cost... The cost is 2k, it was the same last time...the majority of that goes right into tier. Our sims cost 19k a week and we need 3 of them for 3 weeks (includes time to set all of them up and the time we are at camp and to take down) and theres a connection fee for both sims which cost about 33k EACH...so it ends up being around 235k ish...so thats where the money goes...since someone had asked. Director Jill: I didnt include any prices to items we need to buy, paying staff etc tongue Director Jill: Will summer camp 2014 still have cabin dance offs? If so, will it be for fun as said last camp without rewards? Are there any other changes to it if it continues? We will NOT be having an official dance off this time around, if you and your cabin would like to do a cabin dance at the talent show - your more than welcome smile Co.Director.Corbin: Me & Cousin run a kids/family club. Would we beable to leave camp site to dj and then return bk to camp site after the dj event is over? Also if we need to pair tiers, would we be able to leave and return back to camp site? Co.Director.Corbin: No. When you are at camp you are expected to stay at camp for the week. Paying tier and doing other work related responsibilities should be done prior to camp starting. The same goes for having breedable pets, they should be fed and enough food placed out before camp starts. Director Jill: Theres other questions like this, at this point we hope all our campers and those coming to camp ... this is a sleepaway camp, so to continue with the realism...your expected to be there. Co. Director Bella: Q: What can I expect to be different from my first Winter CHK and my first Summer CHK?Co. Director Bella: [B] A: Events of course and the staff has changed as well. We have RFL at the very end of the week too! It's a lot warmer too, so leave those snow boots behind and pull out your swim and warm weather clothing! Director Jill: This is the first year I'm trying to register my daughter for camp. We had previously heard the signup was L$1000, and have been informed that it's now been raised to L$2000. I'm just curious about how this benefits the camp, and in what ways will it be made that much nicer for the kids? Director Jill: Hopefully I answered this before...the registration money jsut about purely pays for tier, we rely on donations and raffles before camp (at the cabin announcement) to raise money to purchase items for the camp and to cover all of the other costs that come along with camp. Director Jill: How we could make it nicer, I hope we always do...in some ways smile Co. Director Bella: Q: Can we bring toys or pets? (wearable bikes/horses/scooters) Co. Director Bella: A: Toys yes, of course! Pets no- Unless they are attachable pets (ie: mesh ones that just follow you- mish mish ones for example) nothing that needs to be left out, rezzed out or fed. All pets that need to be fed are to be left at home and given enough food for the week! Director Gattz: Can the boys cabin squeeze in a couple more bunks to accommodate the demand since we can not get enough for an entire cabin? During camp we do look at who has shown up for camp and who hasn't to allow people off the waiting list to come in. Problem if we just add extra bunks is if they all come, then they will have more people then other cabins. Director Jill: About the boys cabin...I usually do add a couple more boys to the boys cabin...we also did look at the waiting list last camps and still have not had enough to add a full cabin. Co.Director.Corbin: Q I was wondering if the counselors will be as involved with different cabins groups as started last camp or is there any changes with that Co.Director.Corbin: A Counselors will be as involved this time as they were during Winter Camp. There will be two counselors in charge of each cabin group. Director Jill: We felt that worked out best, having them help each cabin - how did you guys like it? Director Jill: They will rortate for tuck ins but not for group moderators Director Jill: How many raffle tickets will be given out when the winners are drawn? Director Jill: We gave out 10 golden tickets this time - including giving one out today big grin Director Jill: We try really hard to give everyone an opportunity to win these...the RFL donation is still going on until tomorrow at 1pm Director Jill: They are announced in the info group and given out during the past camp Co. Director Bella: Q: Since Miss Jes won't be there for my prank cleanup, who will be assigned to me? Co. Director Bella: A: All the counselors will be tidying pranks, don't forget your prank rules! Director Jill: You have given the family camunity so much over the years. Camp has developed into a amazing week for so many. What do you hope for Camp Hardknocks in the future? PS. Thank you for all you have given to us. Director Jill: What we hope for camp in the future is to always be a safe place, LOW drama (would be nice!) and to always be a place where at least one person can come out of and feel like they really had a loving experience. Director Jill: Are kids allowed to come home early and if so, what is the process to make this happen? Director Jill: Well, we rarely ever see kids go home early unless they leave for RL...but if this happens, their spot will be given away to someone randomly on the waiting list without a refund. We REALLY and I emphasize REALLY..hope you think long and hard if you will be able to emotionally handle being away from your family (if you have never come before), can you be away from working on your stores for that week, can you afford that, you think about will you be able to spend a good amount of time to get a really good taste of camp and if you are really commited to being a kid this week before you register because if you know you cant, coming for a day or two and leaving will really take away the opportunity for someone else to come. Director Jill: What are the only reasons a girl(since boys get stuck in one cabin we know) can change cabins, that are allowed? For an example like if two girl from a cabin are mortal enemies and there will be a battle for good and evil type of deal if they are in the same cabin. Director Jill: We have really done our best to stick by the no moving rule but ultimetly it is in our discrection if there is an issue we feel we need to avoid by moving some...it will be RARE but that is something we will deal with when it comes. So please do not ask to change lol...also if you see some kids moved around, that does NOT mean they asked us to do that...it means we may have had our own issue that we need to shuffle some around - we will ask if thats the case. Co. Director Bella: Q: What can I expect to be different from my first Winter CHK and my first Summer CHK? Co. Director Bella: A Events of course are alweays different and the staff has changed as well- we're welcome a lot of new counselors. We have RFL at the very end of the week too! It's a lot warmer, so leave those snow boots behind and pull out your swim and warm weather clothing! Director Jill: Will cabin wars be during a mixture of times (for those in Australia, England, Netherlands etc) or will cabin wars be at a set time every day? Co. Director Bella: A Events of course are alweays different and the staff has changed as well- we're welcome a lot of new counselors. We have RFL at the very end of the week too! It's a lot warmer, so leave those snow boots behind and pull out your swim and warm weather clothing! Co.Director.Corbin: Q. Will everyone be able to interact with each other or will it be separated camps? Co.Director.Corbin: A. You will be able to interact with EVERYONE at camp. You will only be expected to be in your cabin during lights out/tuck-ins and Cabin Wars. Other than that you can go where you would like. Co. Director Bella: Q: What sport activities will there be? (soccer, baseball, basketball, volleyball, tennis, ,kickball etc) Co. Director Bella: A: A lot! Can't tell you anything specific- your counselors are working super hard to come up with amazing and creative events for you, but they're alllll a surprise! Co. Director Bella: Q: How many prims are we allowed to have for our bunk? Co. Director Bella: A: 30 for sure (it's low because of mesh)! Prims are all dependent on what's left after decor as well. So keep an eye out for the exact number closer to camp, but you can count on 30 for sure! Co.Director.Corbin: Q. What Camp activities are planned to keep us busy. will there be a daily schedule of activities. Co.Director.Corbin: A. There are tons of cool events that are in the works for you guys. There will be an event board that campers are able to see daily for events and times they take place. Some campers also will do a Note Card with the events and times each day that will be sent out in a notice. I do not want to reveal any secrets but counselors do tend to post their work in progress on plurk! Feel free to add them to plurk or you can ask previous campers. Director Jill: Every camp session there are one or two kids that register and then for some reason, they are unable to come to camp. But that isn't known until after camp starts? How will that be dealt with. I mean if they aren't at camp at all, their bunk stays empty. Director Jill: If a bunk is empty by the first Sunday, we will contact the person and give them 24 hours (unless we know ahead of time)...then we will replace them. Director Jill: With the strain and stress that goes on the owners with registration, how is it being handled? Director Jill: Registration...this is how it works. Tomorrow at 2pm we will send out a LM in the info group and we will shut down at x amount campers...the first people that register will get into camp. Then again at 7pm, we will be on a different sim and again we will open registration to however many more spaces we have available (depending on if the 3rd sim is secured by tomorrow morning) Director Jill: You could only register 1 person Co.Director.Brennie: At the auction place for the golden ticket it says it ends on the 29th but registration is tomorrow. Is that a mistake or right?] This was my mistake in setting up the raffle. I apparently don’t know what day it is >,> But the raffle will allow me to end it early so I will be ending it tomorrow at 1:00pm SLT. So get your tickets now! http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Larette%20Island/216/210/22 Co. Director Bella: Q: I was wondering, since we have other kids who love their sister, and I know there is a parents day, would the kids be allowed to come as well to see their sister at camp? Cause I think it would be nice for them to see her in a different setting. Co. Director Bella: A: For the Parents Day, each camper can bring 2 people. Director Jill: Can we finally have our display names on our bunks? big grin Unfortunately, no...because all during camp, we see display names changing and there is no way we are going to start changing names...plus when we do bunk checks to see if your at camp (when your online) it is much quicker! I personally choose not to see display names because I do a lot of paperwork and it is much easier that way. However, I will not add "Resident" as a last name on the bunks tongue Director Jill: How much people will be allowed on the sim for signups? We only allow 15 members on the sim...that is the limit we set but secondlife does not comply sometimes...ssince there is a lot of people trying to get in, it lets more than we allow in. This is not a good thing for us since the scripts get overwhelmed and shut down...at that point, we have restarted the sim because we had no other choice. In fact, we rented a homestead last year and it allowed 30 people in it..obviously that isnt something we even expected since they only hold 20! SO we do our best but our MAIN concern is the scripts so your registered correctly. Co. Director Bella: Q: Silly question .. but will new kids going to camp get help with things like bunk making specifications? Co. Director Bella: A: Not a silly Question at all! There really aren't bunk specifications besides the prim count, size and what you can't cover. That will all be sent out in a notice/notecard closer to camp of course! You can decorate your bunk your own way, or some stores tend to sell bunkmates too! You can also ask in camp chat! Director Jill: Will there be a good balance between mesh decorations at camp and the traditional prim style buildings and such, to help reduce lag for us unfortunate peoples with terrible computers? lol (sad I know) Director Jill: We certaintly try to have a good mix of items! Director Jill: can there not be yellow as a color cause it's really hard for designing? big grin love you though <3 Director Jill: LOL...theres only so many colors!! Chances are, you MAY see a yellow lol Director Jill: If you know that you wont be able to make registration due to personal commitments, is there a way to get a spot on the waiting list early? Director Jill: Let me explain the waiting list since there are some questions about it! The waiting list will be put out AFTER the last registration (unless there is some issue with the AM registration - that will be up to our discretion). We will send out a LM in the information group and the waiting list WILL be randomized (sorry)...the reason for this is because the system allows anyone to register as many as they want on the list..so we have found that limits things. So when we have space, it will be random and everyone will have the same chance. Director Jill: Do you have the exact dates yet for summer camp? Director Jill: July 12th - 20th (it runs 8 days) Co. Director Bella: Q: How are campers allocated to which cabins? Co. Director Bella: A: We have a 'choosing ceremony'! We all sit together and all the campers names are put in with a special script and it spits out the campers names in cabins randomly. The only things that are 'chosen' are captains and co-captains! Co. Director Bella: And the choosing ceremony is the 28th right after the camp auction which begins on the 27th! Director Jill: At both previous camps, I spent a lot of time providing intermediary services for friends who have problems with the over-enthusiasm of campers making it hard to follow along larger events like the closing ceremony. Along with the excellent strides you made in welcoming our Autistic campers, what other accessibility aids are you hoping to provide? Director Jill: I am very open to listening to what other aids are needed and we could certaintly implement it into camp big grin Director Jill: Do I have to have parents in order to go to camp? Director Jill: Nope big grin WinterRavens Resident: how are captains an co captains chosen? obviously it's not random, but is it a popularity contest or what? smileDirector Jill: I will address the capt/co capt - As darla said, I read the applications to the directors (and some counselors) without using your name or ANY information that would give away who you are...so my advice is, really work hard on your application if its something you want. Director Jill: can someone else register for camp if we cant make a registration time? Yes yes yes Director Jill: What will be the theme of the camp this summer (ie. tropical, forest, etc)? Director Jill: There will be a tropical/jungle feel to camp tongue Snapshot of the winner of the Q&A golden ticket - http://gyazo.com/8ce4264b91cf6e1b638de296c57df0c1 |
