dahut! god. for as little time as they actually got to spend together dahut had such a huge impact on him... if dahut hadn't been his roommate and hadn't died so early i truly don't think todomatsu's character arc would have gone in the direction it did.

he immediately liked dahut upon meeting him and kind of felt like he hit the roommate jackpot. he was cute and nice and well-liked but not in a threatening way that todomatsu felt like he had to compete with; he was neat and considerate with their shared space, he baked delicious stuff, and he seemed interested in what todomatsu had to say without being annoying about it. his only flaw as far as he was concerned was that he spent so much time with scien lmao who sounded creepy from his profile and just immediately rubbed him the wrong way when they talked. obviously he didn't know shit about what their deal was but he was kind of concerned like ? you can do so much better than this guy??? don't let him push you into any weird illegal stuff!!! scien said some cryptic shit about dahut having secrets and not being trustworthy and like. a big part of todomatsu's character is that he doesn't tell people shit and hates being guilt tripped for it, so that actually just made him more inclined to NOT ask dahut any of that because he was like people can have secrets!!!! fuck off!!!!

dahut obviously had a terrible time with emotionshare and todomatsu didn't really get why, but seeing him all huddled up under the covers was sad and he worried about him and tried to make him feel better and get his mind off of it, and ended up telling him some about his family after accidentally thoughtsharing a comparison between ichimatsu and the way dahut was describing scien lmao... i had not planned on him acknowledging his brothers at all until memshare but the cat was kind of out of the bag already after this so he at least vaguely mentioned them a few times instead of straight up pretending they didn't exist. anyway, from that conversation he could tell that yeah, dahut's relationship with scien actually did sound a lot like his with his brothers, so he was more willing to tolerate scien after that even if he still didn't like him. todomatsu was also probably a pretty good roommate to be stuck with during emotionshare most of the time because he's the one who's always getting accused of not having feelings in canon lmao so aside from party night (WHICH IS A BIG EXCEPTION...) he wasn't radiating any particularly strong feelings and liked to think he was helping dahut a little by not pushing messy emotions on him!

but then yeah party night lmfao. TODOMATSU WAS NOT AT HIS BEST THAT NIGHT...... between his getting humiliated by both party games and his own accidental thoughtshares and margaret giving everyone kiss cards except for him and lucien stealing his phone he was just a pissy drunk bitch and i'm sorry that dahut had to deal with him like that!! but he was so sweet giving him croissants and water to keep him from being stupid and getting a terrible hangover and todomatsu appreciated that a lot!!! going back to the drugstore girl thing again he fell in love with her because she was concerned for him and rubbed his back while he was dying from a hangover on the floor of her store lmfao and she was nice to him and looked him in the eye and touched him even though he's a piece of shit, so clearly treating him like that is the way to his heart which made dahut his absolute favorite person there that first week.

AND THEN HE FUCKING DIED. it being tutorial made it extra hard because no one had expected anything like that to happen and he didn't understand why the hell it would have happened to dahut of all people when he was like the most likable person on the whole ship. and again, in his own world, they die for stupid comedy reasons all the time but then come back immediately, and only have to worry about death for real when it's late in the season and the mood is different, so when this happened he was just like ?? it's still the first episode and this isn't funny at all?? what????? and the whole thing freaked him out really badly.

also since he'd had a roommate the whole time he was here he hadn't had to confront how scared and lonely he gets in the dark without his brothers there, and now suddenly that was an issue and a BIG ONE because he had SO MUCH MORE REASON TO BE SCARED than he usually did, actually!!! and he just didn't sleep at all from friday until the next monday and was about to have a fucking breakdown.

god talking to scien on friday was like... at first he actually felt sympathetic and was trying to be nicer to him because of the way dahut had talked about him, but then he just pissed him off again with his whole ~~~OH DAHUT HAD SO MANY SECRETS BUT I'M NOT GOING TO BE RUDE AND TELL THEM~~~ thing because he was like dude if you're not going to give away his secrets then just let him fucking have them and stop hinting to everyone that they exist and trying to complicate people's feelings about him????

but then after finding out he'd been the killer his feelings got complicated again because of the comparison with scien+dahut and him+his brothers, because he actually HAD killed his brothers before when he was really hurt and furious with them, so he was like, yeah, that's kind of understandable actually? and just felt sad about it...

this is so many thoughts for one week

anyway dahut was honestly in some ways like the first meaningful loss he ever experienced in his life and that strongly influenced how he processed things after that, so he continued to mean a lot to him even after he'd been gone a long time, and it also made him appreciate other people more because he never knew if he was going to lose them too.

he got SO EMOTIONAL WHEN HE SAW HIM IN THE VR THING... since he'd kind of become The Symbol Of Loss for him being able to talk to him again made everything feel a lot less hopeless. i think it was kind of hilarious how he immediately went into crying about how lonely it was and then being a stupid prideful brat about actually doing anything about that and just putting them back in the exact same position they kept ending up in before where dahut just nicely humored him while he was a self centered little shit lmao... thought he actually recognized that this time and felt bad about it

when the dead finally came back for real he was soooo happy to see him again and finally cook with him like he'd said he would a million years ago!! the memshare he got from him was obviously concerning and he was kind of amazed that he had to be like uh?? even if you have spares or whatever it still fucking hurts to die (which he personally knows very well because even comedy deaths still hurt!) and you were clearly scared and sad in that moment so of course people are going to be upset seeing this??? PEOPLE CARE ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS!!!

he was still kind of wary about him going back to that even with the 10 minute leeway so he probably texted him right after they went back to their worlds like a mom texting to make sure her kid got home okay... and he'll probably text him pictures of whatever exciting food he eats with recipes attached sometimes for the rest of his life
